Strengths of Cover 2[]
- Cornerbacks play near receivers, cover short and underneath routes
- Cornerbacks have run contain responsibility, can help contain outside runs
- In Madden, safeties tend to play deeper in Cover 2 than other coverages, helping with deep ball.
Weaknesses[]
- There is only one LB covering the middle of the field, from close to deep. If you can draw the MLB close, deep middle will be open. If you can draw the MLB deep, near middle will be open.
- If cornerbacks are forced to commit on the underside of their zones, the deep corner will often be open. However, some cover 2 coverages have corners in a "sink" zone, which will give up a catch underneath in order to to spy on deeper routes.
