Madden NFL 2005 is an NFL sports video game developed by EA Tiburon and published by EA Sports.
It is the last Madden NFL game to release on the PlayStation and also to release on a fifth generation console. It is also the first to release on a seventh generation console, the Nintendo DS. It is also the last EA Sports game to support EA Sports Bio, along with NCAA Football 2005, as EA dropped Bio support for the rest of their 2005 lineup.

Demo in NFL Street 2[]
A playable demo of Madden NFL 2005 is featured in NFL Street 2. The demo only shows the Ray Lewis intro upon booting up, and the menus are restricted to only show the Baltimore Ravens, as if the player were to set their favorite team to the Ravens. Only American Idiot by Green Day will play in the menus, however.
The player can only play as the Super Bowl XXXVIII-participating teams Carolina Panthers or the New England Patriots. Also, the commentary is disabled during gameplay.

- The Super Bowl win animation has been upgraded, now a win in the Super Bowl results in a confetti shower and the presentation of the Vince Lombardi trophy.
- The game has a playable demo of NFL Street featuring a match of the two Super Bowl teams of 2004, the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers. The demo is not available on GameCube.
- This was the last game to feature the EA Sports Bio concept, this feature was not available in future EA Sports titles.

- Tony Bruno hosts his radio show during franchise mode and sometimes coaches and players such as Marvin Harrison, Derrick Burgess, Lamont Thompson, Akin Ayodele, Marcus Trufant and a player that was an outstanding performer will call in.
- Game Pro magazine compared the concept of the graphics to Adam Sandler's character on The Waterboy.
- Bill Parcells is not present in the game as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys because he has a contract with ESPN so he is referred to as "Dallas Coach".
- If you move a player to a different team at the main menu rosters mode, when you go into a franchise their stats will be at N/A for everything.
- The gameplay is very similar to NCAA Football 2005.
- Ray Lewis is the only linebacker (as of Madden NFL 11) to grace the cover of Madden.
- Woodrow Dantzler is listed as his nickname "Woody" in this game.
- Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is listed as Ben Roethlisbergr because of in-game character limitations. T. J. Houshmandzadeh is also shortened to T.J. Houshmandz.
- This was the last in the series to be released for the PlayStation and the first in the series released for the DS. It is also the first Madden game to debut on a 64 bit handheld.
- The most points you can score is 255 but when you score another point it counts to your total at the end of the game.
- A Collector's Edition of Madden NFL 2005 was released only for the PlayStation 2. This version included the complete game plus three playable classic versions which included a 16-bit version and two PlayStation versions. It also included five videos including Madden Phenomenon, Music of Madden, Evolution of Art in Madden, Behind the Scenes, and Game Producer's Commentary
