Madden NFL 97 is an NFL sports video game developed by EA Tiburon and published by EA Sports. It is the first Madden NFL game to be released on a fifth generation home console. This was also the last Madden game to feature the Houston Oilers when they were in Houston but also the first official prescence of the Baltimore Ravens following the relocation crisis of the Cleveland Browns roster being moved to Baltimore. While at first the Browns were moving to become the Ravens, the NFL decided to keep the Browns history, logos, colors, etc. in Cleveland treating the Ravens as an expansion team. Such a crisis wouldn't be repeated until the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL pulled a similar stunt following the 2023-2024 season in their move to Utah potentially making 33 teams in the NHL.
