The Maitland Tiburon is a fantasy team that appeared between Madden NFL 96 and Madden NFL 2002. They had an overall of 99. The team logo is a hammerhead shark to match the Tiburon company logo, a result of the word Tiburon meaning "Shark" in Spanish. The team has no special abilities. They were known as the Tiburon Tiburon between 1995 and 1999 and in 2000, they became the Maitland Tiburon.

While the team does not appear as a built in team since Madden NFL 2003 to Madden NFL 12 on PS2, Xbox, and GameCube consoles, the Tiburon Electronic Arts logo was available for the player to use in Create-A-Team starting in Madden NFL 2004. When creating a new team, the game defaults to using the Tiburon logo in conjunction with naming the team the Tiburon Sharks, and basing the team in Maitland, Florida.

Tiburon Sports Complex[]

The Tiburon Sports Complex is where the Maitland Tiburon team plays. It has a grass field surface type and a capacity of 26,000. The stadium itself in the PC, PS1, and N64 versions has many depictions of hammerhead sharks alike with one end featuring teeth of a hammerhead shark as well. In the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube versions, the stadium is completely different with rows of seats jutting out of the stadium resembling shark teeth all encapsulated within an open canopy-like structure.

Trivia[]

  • The Tiburon Sports Complex from Madden NFL 96 to Madden NFL 2000 is often nicknamed the "Hammerhead Stadium" because of its images of Hammerhead Sharks.
  • The Maitland Tiburon and the Tiburon Sharks are basically the same team but are technically different from one another but the Tiburon Sharks was used as the team's name in NCAA Football 2002.
  • The Maitland Tiburon stadium and team is also shown from NCAA Football 2000 to NCAA Football 2002 however only the stadium reappears in NCAA Football 2003, 2004, 2005, and 06.
  • From Madden NFL 2001 to Madden NFL 2004, the Tiburon Sports Complex is completely different with rows of seats jutting out of the stadium resembling shark teeth all encapsulated within an open canopy-like structure.
  • The team itself ended after Madden NFL 2002 but the stadium reappears in Madden NFL 2003 and Madden NFL 2004 on both 5th gen and 6th gen consoles. It also returns in NCAA Football 2003, 2004, 2005, and 06.
  • In the 6th gen version of the stadium, it has an alternative name called Tiburon Memorial Stadium.
  • The endzones of the Maitland Tiburon vary between Madden and NCAA. In PS1 Madden, the endzones are black with Tiburon in blue lettering with white outline and hammerhead sharks in same colors on either side of the text. In PS2 Madden, the endzones are the same color as the rest of the field and the art is more official looking. It's derived from the team's logo with only Tiburon Electronic Arts on it in a stacked form with Tiburon in white with black outline and Electronic Arts in all black with no outline color. Interestingly enough the PS1 Madden endzone art was carried over to NCAA Football 2002.
  • In Madden NFL 97, whenever the Tiburon are the home team, they have a short FMV showing Hammerhead sharks swimming in water with fish and then displays the Tiburon logo afterwards. The sharks and fish swimming in the water is a metaphor since the fish are the prey while the sharks are the predator.
  • The old Tiburon Sports Complex from Madden NFL 98 to Madden NFL 2000 had a capacity of 47,313 which is also the same stadium capacity number as the Old West stadium seen in Madden NFL 98. Their original location was Longwood, Florida before moving to Maitland, Florida.
  • The endzone art in the NCAA Football PS1 games is simply a blue background with white text albeit doesn't entirely cover the endzone as it does show grass on the endzone art sides.
