The playbook is the menu in Madden where players choose what offensive, defensive or special teams plays they want to run. In the playbook, plays are usually organized by formation or by play type (run, pass, option etc.). You can choose plays by pressing the button corresponding to the play. Formations can also be flipped in the menu.
Your opponent's playbook menu will be visible to you and vice versa. However, there is still an element of surprise as Madden does not show which of the plays on the menu you or your opponent selected.
If a team is running a no-huddle offense, the playbook will not appear in between plays. Instead, players can only change their plays by calling audibles.
