A trade being initiated between the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills in Madden NFL 2005.
A trade is an NFL transaction between two or three teams involving the transfer of players and draft picks. In the real life NFL, many trades occur over the NFL seasons. Generally, in the Madden NFL series, trades only occur in the season and franchise modes of the game.
Trade Value[]
A trade value is a value to limit the interest of CPU teams. Player values can be determined by their OVR rating, age/years pro and depth on their position. In most 6th generation releases, trade values can range from F (lowest) to A++ (highest).
The player can exploit the trade value by editing the position of the player they want to trade for before making the trade, then reverting the position after the trade is complete.
Messages[]
The player would receive the following messages after the player initiates a trade.
6th Generation releases[]
- The (insert team) have accepted the trade. Proceed? (When the player's trade with a CPU team is accepted)
- Do both users accept this trade? (When two user teams make a trade)
- Trade rejected: (insert team) are not interested in your trade. (If player executes a trade with a CPU team while the interest meter faces the player's side)
- Trade rejected: (insert team) don't have the cap room. (When CPU team would be over the salary cap if the trade goes through)
- Trade rejected: Cannot trade K/P's with CPU teams. (When trying to trade away/trade for a kicker/punter with CPU teams)
- Trade rejected: (insert team) would exceed the maximum of 55 players on a roster. (When team would have more than the maximum amount of players if the trade is executed)
- Trade rejected: (insert team) would exceed the maximum of 10 draft picks for a team. (When team would have more than the maximum amount of draft picks if the trade is executed)

- Trade rejected: Cannot submit trade until all week x games have been played. (When a trade is being proposed before all games have been played for the week)

Trade Me[]
An in-game screenshot of the Trade Me message in Madden NFL 2005, depicting Takeo Spikes demanding a trade.
A Trade Me indicates that a player demands to be traded to another team and refuses to play for his current team. This is due to the player's morale dropping to an extremely low rating due to a poor season/being benched for most of the season. A player who has a Trade Me will no longer play a down for the team they demanded to be traded from.
Morale messages[]
Five messages will appear on the morale screen to indicate a player's demand to be traded.
- I demand to be traded. Now!
- Trade me now. I need a fresh start.
- Start the trade talks. I don't want to play here anymore
- Start working the phones. I demand to be traded.
- Trade me. I'll never play another down with this team.
